Flying Diary
Glider Service - Monday 2 April 2008
No flying this time; just a quick report that my glider has been returned after being serviced and had it's side-wires replaced! The chute in my harness was also repacked.
After reading a post on www.hanggliding.org about wear points on the LE tubes of the Aeros Target hang glider by its by side-wires when in transit; I inspected my own glider to find a similar problem. Checking with Aeros and my former instructor, I opted to replace the side-wires (they we due to be changed) and have the LE tubes inspected.

Aeros confirmed that on a small number of gliders, the metal tangs were bent at the wrong angle allowing contact with the leading edge tubes. My former instructor also commented that if the bolts that connect the side-wires to the LE were too tight, when the glider is folded; the same sort of LE marking can happen. Aeros kindly sent me a replacement side-wires and informed me that minor damage to the LE tubes in this area is not a problem as the tubes here are double skinned!
The glider is now ready for its first flight of 2008, hopefully this weekend!
