Camera Mounting
For some years I've been contemplating taking a camera up on the glider with me so I can take some aerial photographs! This would allow me to share the experience with those that don't fly and for me to capture some of those amazing views! The main concern was how to do this safely, that is, to be able to take photographs without adversely affecting my ability to pilot the glider.
I was able to purchase a 'Zoot' camera mount through Ebay, but I've since found them available through Firebird UK (I did get it slightly cheaper through Ebay). The Zoot camera mount allows be to securely fasten the camera to the base bar of the glider.
| Question: | Is it legal to take photographs from the air? |
| Answer: | It didn't dawn to me that there may be legal issues with taking photographs from the air until a colleague at work mentioned it. This then sparked off a frenzy of investigation. After locating a document on the CAA website (Air Navigation: The Order and the Regulations, Part 14 paragraph 140) I concluded that it is perfectly legal from an aviation perspective. The only mention in the document was with regard to 'Valuable Consideration'. It is probably worth noting the non-aviation legal issues such as the invasion of privacy. I would guess the common sense would prevail here! |
