Windy Winching And A Little XC

A short summary of both of my flights with the Suffolk Coastal Floaters Hang Gliding Club. My first flight ends with an interesting landing approach and my second I embark on a very short XC.

The Fifty Fifty Bridle

Recent amendments to aerotowing procedures in the UK require gliders of certain aspect ratios to be towed with a 50:50 bridle and trolley launched only. The AirBorne Sting 3:168, with an aspect ratio of 5.7, falls into this category. This is my first aerotow in this configuration. Thanks to Stewart and Cathy of Flylight for taking the time out to set-up the glider and get me up in the air again!

A Sled Ride - Scratchy, Uphill, Downwind Landing!

Hang Gliding - The Shadow Beneath Me

Summary edit of my 13.4 km cross country flight in Suffolk on the 21 May 2011. By my third tow of the day, I eventually released off the towline into a thermal which took me to 2,516 feet and a total distance of 13.4 km.

Aerotow Conversion

Narrated highlights of my hang glider aerotow conversion course with Flylight. This course converts a hang glider pilot with a hill or tow endorsement to the aerotow environment. Gliders flown, Aeros Target 16 and an AirBorne Sting 3:168. The course was run over two consecutive Mondays and the video shows 'some' of the activities from the final day of the endorsement.

The flight was pretty rough but unusual for me, lasted over an hour - that was longer than the life of battery in the camera, so no actual landing in this video. Too Windy For Me

This video was taken back from the days when I was flying my Aeros Target and any flying on my part would have best been described as gale hanging! For that reason I opted not to fly and instead, filmed some of the flying using a tripod mounted camera. The music in this piece is called 'Melt' from the album 'Leftism', by Leftfield.
