Sedgwick Park to Monks Gate

Introduction

This particular short section is not known well; it's a fun little downhill and one of my local favourites! It doesn't drain well, so can get bogged down during the winter months or after periods of heavy rain. There are several routes that can be taken to get to it. I normally start from Southwater (making use of the Cafe at Southwater Country Park). There are some lovely pubs worth paying a visit to (Black House in Nuthurst and White Horse Maplehurst).

The Track

The route itself is not particularly challenging and is more of a series of gentle sweeping bends on a slight downhill through a small pine wood. It's weaving side to side through the trees that I find particularly fun. Be on the look-out of horse riders, dog walkers and pedestrians - it doesn't get used much, but I have come across them! Visibility on the track is pretty good and you'll see others in plenty of time but as the track narrows towards the end, the visibility reduces!
